Govt to establish social development offices in all districts

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The government is planning to establish social development offices in all districts.

According to a press release issued by the secretariat of Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Parbat Gurung on Thursday, the social development offices will be established to expedite social development-related works at the local level.

On Wednesday, a meeting between Federal Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Parbat Gurung and social development ministers from various provinces agreed in principle to set up social development offices in all districts.

"We want to execute social development works across the country as priority projects," Federal Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Gurung said. The minister said that the federal government will launch social development programs in coordination with the provincial and local governments.

On the occasion, Social Development Minister of Province 1 Jiwan Ghimire said that the province is committed to executing social development projects in coordination with the federal government.

Social Development Minister of Province 2 Nawalkishor Shah said that the province is ready to launch campaigns against child marriage, dowry in coordination with the federal government.

Social Development Minister of Gandaki Province Nardevi Pun expressed commitment to make his province 'children-friendly' in coordination with the federal government. "Social organizations should be categorized to expedite social development works in the province," he said.

Meanwhile, Social Development Minister of Province 5 Sudarshan Baral vowed to execute projects targeting women, children and senior citizens.

Addressing the program, Social Development Minister of Karnali Province Dal Rawal said that his province is ready to eliminate age-old Chhaupadhi tradition in coordination with the federal government.
