Govt to escort veg supplies

KATHMANDU, May 5: A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar on Wednesday decided to prepare a working plan to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities during strikes.



Purushottam Ojha, secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, told Republica that the meeting also reviewed the supplies situation in the capital since the beginning of the Maoists´ indefinite protest. [break]



“The meeting decided to formulate a working plan to deal with the shortage of essential commodities in the market during bandas and strikes,” Ojha said after the meeting.



The meeting also decided to escort vehicles carrying vegetables from major producing districts outside the capital. “We have decided to escort vegetable supplies to the capital, as the capital is running out of stock,” Ojha said.



He claimed that the government has sufficient stock of food grains and petroleum products.
