Govt to declare upcoming decade 'Youth Employment Decade'

The government has announced the upcoming decade as the ‘Decade of Employment’ and has made participation in the Social Security Fund mandatory for all sectors.

KATHMANDU, May 2: The government has announced the upcoming decade as the ‘Decade of Employment’ and has made participation in the Social Security Fund mandatory for all sectors. President Ram Chandra Paudel made the announcement while presenting the government's policies and programs at a joint session of Parliament on Friday.



The government policy states, “Contribution-based social security will be made mandatory. A culture of respecting labor will be developed. Interns will be involved in startups with an hourly wage system.”

Additionally, the government has committed to continuing labor incentive practices to prevent the outflow of skilled human resources and to establish basic labor standards through labor audits.


“The implementation of basic labor standards will be ensured through labor audits,” the policy document reads, “Previously implemented but currently halted labor incentive practices will be resumed to prevent brain drain.”


The policy also emphasizes entrepreneurship as a foundation for generation of domestic employment.


“Youth employment will be created by promoting entrepreneurship within the country,” the government declared, “The coming decade will be celebrated as the Youth Employment Decade.
