KATHMANDU, April 19: Cabinet meeting on Sunday discussed the ways to provide compensation and relief to the victims of Koshi embankment breach in August last year.
The meeting held to address the demands of the victims who have been obstructing Inaruwa-Koshi Barrage section of Mahendra Highway for the past nine days decided to announce the compensation and rehabilitation package Monday.

“We have agreed today to decide the compensation and rehabilitate package tomorrow as recommended by a local committee,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Upendra Yadav who is also Constituent Assembly member from the Koshi-floods affected villages in Sunsari district.
Government’s spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Krishna Bahadur Mahara said a cabinet committee comprising Finance Ministry officials will decide the compensation amount after a meeting Monday morning.
There was no other agenda in Sunday’s meeting, said Mahara. “It was not a meeting on a regular agenda.”
