Govt to address 5-pt UDMF demands

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: The government has agreed to address the five-point demands put forth by the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).

A three-hour meeting between the talk teams on Sunday entrusted Law Minister Agni Kharel to prepare the practical and constitutional grounds to address the UDMF demands. The minister will be assisted by Federal Socialist Forum Vice-chairman Lalbabu Raut.UDMF has been demanding to declare martyrs to deceased of the Madhes protests, provide compensation to family members of the deceased, free medical treatment to injured, lift declaration of conflict-hit areas and curfew in various districts and release all arrested UDMF cadres and leaders, UDMF leader Ram Naresh Ray said.

The government has requested the UDMF to call off protests. However, the UDMF has decided to go with the protests, Ray said.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Thursday.
