Govt staffer shot dead in Janakpur

KATHMANDU: A government staffer with the Inland Revenue Office (IRO) in Janakpur, Kumar Niraula, was shot dead allegedly by armed men of Rajan Mukti-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha, Monday morning.



A senior Home Ministry official in Kathmandu confirmed the report.



A group of armed men who came on motorcycles attacked him at 10:30 a.m. while Niraula, 55, was on his way to the office.



Niraula was a Kharidar (non-gazetted staff) at the IRO. He breathed his last while being rushed to the Janakpur Zonal Hospital, according to officials at the Home Ministry.



The assailants fled the scene after leaving behind a pistol at the site.
