JANAKPUR, June 25: A school principal in Janakpur has been shot at by two unidentified people while heading toward the school from his home on Sunday.
Narendra Sharma, principal of Bilatsaha Sarvodaya Secondary School, Sinurjoda sustained bullet injuries in his left cheek during the attack. The forty-six-year-old principal from Janakpur-6 is out of danger after undergoing surgery.
Eyewitnesses said two young men at Laxminiya Chowk stopped the motorbike which Sharma was pillion riding and shot at him. It had been reported that a bullet which entered from the left cheek was stuck below his tongue. He was immediately taken to Janakpur Zonal Hospital.
When doctors were unable to take the bullet out, he was airlifted to Kathmandu on a helicopter. The bullet was successfully removed following a surgery.
As informed by Meghnath Yadav, chairperson of Nepal Teachers' Association, Dhanusha, Sharma's condition is no more critical.
Sharma was pillion riding the bike of one of the teachers of his school Aanand Mandal.
Mandal has been kept in police custody for further investigation. As per the statement of Mandal, two unknown men shot at Sharma and immediately ran away in their motorbikes.
DSP Manoj Yadav, spokesperson of District Police Office, Dhanusha told Republica that they have been trying their best to book the culprits. He further informed that Mandal has described the physical appearances of the perpetrators which will help in finding them out.
“Believe us, we will find them very soon,” he said. As per the preliminary investigation of police, personal grudges could be the reason behind the attack.
Expressing disappointment with the incident, TAN Dhanusha Chairperson Yadav has demanded the arrest of the culprits within a week. He has even warned of taking to the streets if the perpetrators are not booked.
