“We have already issued directives to find their status and we will take an appropriate action without any delay,” said Home Secretary Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana at the meeting of parliament´s State Affairs Committee (SAC) on Sunday.
According to the Supreme Court, the vehicles meant for the late prime ministers have also not been returned and are being used by other people. “This court doesn´t find such an act logical. Therefore, it is hereby ordered to immediately set such abnormal irregularities right,” the court had stated.
No return of security details from VVIPs: Home Ministry
Officials have also made it clear that the security details will not be withdrawn from former top public office bearers.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar and Home Secretary Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana made this clear at a meeting of the parliament´s State Affairs Committee (SAC) on Sunday responding to lawmakers´ queries.
“We have decided not to make any changes in the existing security arrangement to VVIPs after we studied the full version of the apex court´s verdict that said the court has no intention to intervene in the matter,” Secretary Rana told SAC members at the meeting.
Lawmakers Pampha Bhusal of the UCPN (Maoist), Khadga Bahadur Sarki Basyal of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Sabitra Bhusal of the CPN-UML, among others, expressed concern over the security of top leaders if the personnel provided to them were recalled. “With the apex court´s verdict there is confusion about the security of the top leaders. So the minister and officials from the home ministry must make this issue clear right here,” demanded Pampha Bhusal at the meeting. Some other lawmakers seconded her.
Tek Prasad Dhungana, legal advisor at the parliament secretariat, read out a section of the verdict and made it clear that the SC has not ordered the government to remove the security details.
The SAC then issued a directive to the government to take necessary decision with regard to providing security to the VIPs and to review the existing security strategy and action plan as and when needed.
