Govt rolls back its decision to raise medical test fee for aspiring Nepali migrant workers

The government has revoked the decision to increase the health examination fee for Nepali workers bound for foreign employment and fixed the charge at Rs 6,500 per person following widespread criticism.

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The government has revoked the decision to increase the health examination fee for Nepali workers bound for foreign employment and fixed the charge at Rs 6,500 per person following widespread criticism.  



The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) scrapped the existing rule to lower the fee by Rs 3,000. On March 21, 2025, Former Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari revised the fee through a ministerial decision and fixed it at Rs 9,500 for the health check-up packages.

Claiming that the service needs to be made more qualitative, the government mandated Nepali workers going for foreign employment to conduct 34 types of health tests and increased the fee accordingly. 


The newly appointed Labour Minister Rajendra Singh Bhandari rolled back the decision of the previous government, according to the MoLESS.
