KATHMANDU, July 27: The government has recalled the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sunsari and senior security officials following a deadly clash between two groups in the district on Sunday night that left one person dead and 24 others injured.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has recalled Sunsari CDO Basudev Ghimire to the ministry and assigned Sankhuwasabha CDO Ishwori Prasad Aryal to take charge of Sunsari.
The MoHA has also reshuffled senior police officials following the incident. Koshi Province Police Office chief Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Kathmandu, while DIG Shekhar Khanal, currently serving at the Police Headquarters, has been assigned to head the Koshi Province Police Office.
Govt recalls CDO from Saptari district
Sunsari District Police Office chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Keshav Thebe has been transferred to Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa. SP Pushparaj Malla, currently serving at the GBIA, has been assigned to replace Thebe.
The MoHA has also recalled SP Shyam Kumar Karki of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal and assigned SP Lab Kumar Sapkota, currently serving at the APF headquarters, to Sunsari.
Similarly, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nanda Kishor Mahato, who was serving at the APF’s Kaptanganj unit, has been recalled. DSP Madan Nath, currently serving at the APF headquarters in Kathmandu, has been assigned to replace him.
The clash took place in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Sunsari, on Sunday night. One person was killed in the incident, while 24 others were injured, including nine civilians, 10 Nepal Police personnel and five APF personnel.
The MoHA has formed a five-member investigation committee under the coordination of Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa to probe the incident. The committee has been given a week to submit its report.
Meanwhile, the Sunsari District Administration Office has imposed an indefinite curfew in parts of Dewanganj and Harinagar rural municipalities from 7 am Monday to prevent further escalation of tensions following the clash.
