KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has said that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold the local level elections on May 3, 2022 as the current five-year term of the people's representative is coming to an end.
He said that it is impossible to imagine the local governments vacant as there is no provision to extend their term till date. He said that the commission was preparing to make a recommendation to the government to fix the date for the local elections soon.
Vote counting will conclude by May 19: CEC Thapaliya
Stating that the EC has entered into the task of handing over new people's representatives and new leadership by holding elections to the province assembly, House of Representatives and president and vice-president by March 2022, he urged the media personnel to assist the commission to conduct the elections in a clean, free, fair, credible and economical manner.
CEC Thapaliya said that the upcoming election would be appropriate from the gender and inclusive point of view. Speaking at a two-day ‘Workshop with women journalists on election operation and management’ held by the Election Commission at Dhulikhel in Kavrepalanchowk today, he said that various issues were being discussed with women journalists as the election was approaching.
