KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The government is preparing to carry out onsite inspections of a number of municipalities of Madhesh Province to facilitate the local bodies that have failed to announce their budget on time.
According to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, a joint team comprising representatives from the ministry, the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, National Vigilance Center and Municipal Association of Nepal is all set to make the onsite visit of the local bodies in Madhesh Province that have failed to announce their annual budget as of now.
Infrastructure prioritized in local budgets
The Constitution has mandated the local governments to come up with their annual budget by Asar 10 of Nepali calendar (June end). However, most of the local bodies in Madhesh Province have not been able to announce their budgets within the stipulated time.
A total of 13 local units have failed to unveil their budgets for the current fiscal year. Of them 10 are local governments in Madhesh Province.
