During the meeting held at the Official Residence of Prime Minister at Baluwatar, today, Chairman of the Interim Election Council (IEC), Khil Raj Regmi, and senior leaders of the major political parties, Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), held discussions on CA election process, election ordinance, and others.

Talking to the senior leaders of the political parties, IEC Chairman Regmi urged them to suggest the government their common view on vote threshold, number of CA seats in proportional category, among other disputed issues.

On the occasion, senior leaders of the major political parties assured to discuss the disputed issues and inform their common view to the IEC Chairman Regmi soon.

Chairman of the Terai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), Mahantha Thakur, who also represented the meeting from UDMF said the government and the parties exchanged information over the progress on election process and the leaders in the HLPC about the efforts to ensure the participation of the agitating political parties in the election process.

Leader Thakur said, "We have made understanding to make efforts from respective positions to declare the election date within the next three days. The government is to declare date for election once the political parties forge consensus regarding the election process."

Minister for Health, Bidyadhar Mallik, who is also a member of the talks team from government´s side, said the government inquired political parties´ view regarding the ratio of number of seats for the proportional category, vote threshold, 10,000 signatures provision for registering a party, property details, and election cost, among others.

Minister Mallik quoted IEC Chairman Regmi, "The major four political parties have to forge consensus regarding the election process and that the government can issue ordinance for election laws, as election is a serious issue and it has been delayed and that it is compulsory to decide to this effect."

Mallik said the meeting was inconclusive as the leaders were on their own stances and that the political parties have made understanding to hold talks on Monday only after forging consensus among themselves.
