KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra SJB Rana has said that the government has clearly shown its malafide intentions by putting him under house arrest.

Rana said that the government has shown such intention by besieging his residence while he was preparing to go to the Supreme Court today.

Rana told Republica, “I was preparing to reach the Supreme Court by 11:00 AM, and left my residence at 10:45 AM. But my security personnel said that they have orders to not let me go out. They were ordered not to provide police escort. I was stopped by the government which has mobilized the police against me. The government's malafide intention to prevent the Chief Justice from going to the Supreme Court is clearly seen here.”

With the news that Chief Justice JB Rana has sent a notice to the Supreme Court that he is going to return to regular work without the conclusion of the impeachment proceedings against him, a large number of security personnel have also been deployed to prevent him from entering the Supreme Court. It is said that Rana’s residence has also been locked from the outside and police have been deployed at the main gate of his residence.

On February 13 this year, 98 MPs filed an impeachment motion against Rana. Sub-section (6) of Article 101 of the Constitution and Sub-Rule 9 of Rule 161 of the House of Representatives Rules 2075 provide that the Chief Justice shall not be able to perform his duties after the impeachment proceedings have commenced. The term of the House of Representatives ended and the new election program started today. The term of the House of Representatives ended late on Saturday night.
