Govt halts work permits for Russia and Ukraine amidst reports of casualty of Nepali citizens

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The government has decided to suspend issuing work permits for Russia and Ukraine.


The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) issued a notice and informed that it has suspended issuing work permits for Russia and Ukraine.

The DoFE said that it stopped the approval of work permits because of the reports of deaths of Nepali citizens joining the Russian army.


Lately, Nepali youths are being illegally recruited into the Russian army. So far, ten Nepalis serving in the Russian army have died.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has identified the deceased as Hari Prasad Aryal from Syangja, Bhar Bahadur Shah from Kailali, and Rajkumar Giri from Dhading.


Similarly, the list includes Sandeep Thapalia from Gorkha, Rupak Karki from Kapilbastu, Dewan Rai from Kaski, Pokhara, Pitam Karki from Putalibazar-5 Syangja, Rajkumar Roka from Melung-6 Dolakha, Gangaraj Moktan from Ilam-5, and Kundan Singh Nagal from Ilam.
