Govt forms a panel to investigate the Mahottari incident

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: The government has formed a Task Force to investigate the incident that took place in Mahottari district on Thursday.


The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) on Friday formed the panel led by Joint Secretary at the ministry Shiva Ram Pokharel. Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police Umesh Raj Joshi, Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Force Kishor Pradhan, Joint Investigation Director of National Investigation Department Bishnu Mani Acharya and Under-secretary at the MoHA Bishwa Raj Marasini are among the members of the panel.  The panel has been given a seven-day deadline to conduct the investigation.

The clash between Hindu-Muslim communities took place on Thursday in Bhangha Municipality-8 of Mahottari. Youths belonging to Hindus and Muslims engaged in a clash during a procession organized by a Hindu youths organization called 'Hindu Samrat Sena'. Local administration imposed a curfew in the area after 15 civilians and 10 policemen were injured in the clash. The curfew was lifted a day later.
