KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala on Friday said the government was focused on bringing about reforms in economic policy and programs to gradually shift the country´s import-led economy to export and production-based.

"As we cannot acheive this with the efforts of government alone, we need to forge coordination the with private sector,” Koirala said at an interaction jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) here on Friday.[break]

He also said the government was committed to adopt the policy of promoting investment by activating private sector for accelerating economic, industrial and business activities in the country. Koirala also said the government would strengthen market monitoring to discourage black-marketeering and hoarding of goods on the eve of major festivals.

Industry secretary Krishna Gyawali said increasing exports by boosting domestic output was only the way to bring down the ballooning trade deficit.
