In the talks held between the two sides here on Thursday and Friday, it was decided that the sugarcane price would be fixed based on its price fixed by India.[break]
Representative of the sugarcane farmers federation, Prem Chandra Gupta, said it was agreed in the meeting to give appropriate price to the sugarcane farmers based on the understanding reached between the two sides.
Gupta said that the sugarcane farmers and the sugar mills owners agreed that the price would be fixed after India fixes the price of sugarcane. It was said that India is fixing the sugarcane price within few days.
According to him, the price of sugarcane in Nepal had to be pegged to the sugarcane price in India as Nepali sugarcane farmers would sell their produce to India if the price of sugarcane there was higher than what is in Nepal and if the price in Nepal was more than India, the Indian sugarcane farmers would export that to Nepal.
