Govt doling out funds to Maoists: UML

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: CPN-UML has accused the government of doling out money from the Self-Employment Fund for Youth and Small Entrepreneurs, which is supported by donor agencies and financial institutions, to Maoist cadres.



The UML leaders at a standing committee meeting of the party on Thursday said the government has been misusing the fund by distributing money from it to Maoist cadres on the basis of fake documents and through fake cooperatives, said a statement issued by the party secretary Yubaraj Gyawali.[breka]



The meeting of the opposition party also criticized the government for arresting chief of the UML´s youth wing Mahesh Basnet and other 14 cadres when they reached the Fund´s office and tried to padlock the office Thursday. They were released later in the day. The party has demanded that the government take immediate initiatives to stop misuse of the fund.



Meanwhile, the meeting formed the principal organizing committee to look oversee the management of the party´s National Representatives´ Council´s three-day meeting which starts from March 4 in Kathmandu.







Members of the management committee, which is headed by party secretary Gyawali, are Astalaxmi Shakya, Pashupati Chaulagain, Bishnu Rimal, Bijay Subba, Arun Nepal, Rajendra Shrestha, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Yogesh Bhattarai, Bijay Paudel, Parshurammeghi Gurung, Jitu Gautam, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Binod Shrestha, Jivan Ram Shrestha, Rameshwar Phuyal, Shushila Nepal, Goma Devkota, Mahesh Basnet, Prem Dangal and Madhav Dhungel.
