Govt dispatches food for flood victims

SURKHET, Oct 9: The government on Friday dispatched food for the flood and landslide victims in various remote western districts.



A Nepal Army MI-17 helicopter that took Home Minister to flood affected districts carried 25 quintals of rice, 50 kg of pulses, 50 kg of salt and two sacks of beaten rice from Surkhet to the flood affected areas, said acting Chief District Officer (CDO) of Surkhet Nawa Raj Baral.



A team comprising Home Minister Bhim Bahadur Rawal visited the flood affected Achham, Doti, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, and Bajura districts on Friday.







Minister Rawal said that they will release money for the relief of flood and landslide victims after assessing their needs. He informed that the government had already released Rs 150 million for the purpose.



On a separate note, Minister Rawal rubbished rumors about the government´s plan to employ journalists as informers. “The government does not have any plan to employ journalists as informers, but to provide them with necessary information,” he said.



Rawal also said that the government was ready to amend the provision if the media fraternity so demands.
