KATHMANDU, Nov 3: The government has decided to declare 45 individuals who lost their lives during the recent Gen-Z protests as martyrs.
The protests were held on September 8 and 9, with demonstrators demanding reforms in national interest, good governance, and stronger measures against corruption.

Announcing the cabinet decision, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, who is also the government spokesperson, said that 45 people who died during the protests in Kathmandu and various parts of the country will be honoured as martyrs by the state.
“This decision follows assessments carried out by a committee under the Home Ministry, along with reports from security agencies and District Administration Offices,” Minister Kharel said. “No further review is under consideration regarding additional names,” he added.
Home Ministry Spokesperson Anand Kafle said that the names of the declared martyrs will be published in the Nepal Gazette as per the Cabinet decision.
