Govt committed to free and fair poll: HM Ghimire

POKHARA, Oct 18: Minister for Home Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire has said the political parties, CA election candidates, Election Commission and the people are confident of the guarantee of security on the day of CA election announced for November 19.



Addressing a regional security meeting on CA election here today, Minister Ghimire said the CA election is testing our capacity and it would be recorded as an important chapter in the history of Nepali politics. [break]



The election candidates would not reach to the people if the government failed to ensure security to them, he said, adding the election is for taking the country towards stability by resolving long-standing problems and institutionalizing the federal democratic republic in the country.



The second CA will certainly meet the people´s aspirations for drafting a new constitution on their own, he said, adding the government is committed to holding the election in a free, fair and impartial atmosphere.



Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung and Joint Secretary at the Home Ministry Shankar Prasad Koirala also put their views at the programme.



Chief District Officers of 16 districts in the western region, chiefs of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and National Investigation Department attended the meeting.
