KATHMANDU, April 25: The government Thursday approved the resignation earlier tendered by National Planning Commission (NPC) vice-chairman and three other NPC members.

A cabinet meeting approved the resignation of NPC Vice-Chairman Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri and members Shiva Kumar Rai, Janak Raj Shah and Abdul Rahim Nikarani, all of whom had submitted their resignation last Monday. [break]

They had resigned, albeit after much reluctance, following the High Level Political Committee’s decision to scrap all political appointments carried by the erstwhile Baburam Bhattarai government.

The Baburam Bhattarai government had earlier appointed former Nepal Rastra Bank governor Chhetri as NPC vice-chairman. Today’s meeting also appointed Ram Hari Lamichhane as member secretary of Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training.
