A meeting of the cabinet took a decision to this effect on Tuesday in response to a proposal from the peace ministry. [break]
The money will cover the first allotment of the allowance to be given to the Maoist combatants who chose voluntary retirement during the categorization process held in November last year.
The combatants will be given from Rs 0.5 million to Rs 0.8 million in addition to allowances to cover their travel allowances for their return home.
Six joint secretaries promoted, 10 ambassadors nominated
The cabinet promoted six joint secretaries to the post of secretary. The promoted secretaries include Arjun Bhandari, Hariram Koirala, Dharani Dhar Khatiwada, Durga Bhattarai, Krishna Chandra Poudel and Tilak Sharma.
The cabinet also named 10 ambassadors. Among the ambassador nominees, six are joint secretaries from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while four others come from outside the diplomatic service. The ambassador nominees from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are Shankar Bairagi (Switzerland), Rudra Nepal (Australia), Bharat Raj Poudel (Pakistan), Mukti Nath Bhatta (Denmark), Paras Mani Ghimire (Myanmar) and Pralahad Prasain (Israel).
Similarly, four other ambassador nominees are Ravi Mohan Sapkota (Russia), Kaman Singh Lama (South Korea), Dr Maya Kumari Sharma (Qatar) and Ram Mani Pokharel (Belgium).
The government is yet to fill ambassadorial posts in Thailand and Malaysia.
