KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The Cabinet meeting on Wednesday appointed Bhola Chalise and Ganesh Bahadur Thapa as the members of the Governor Recommendation Committee.

Chalise has been included as the economy expert whereas Thapa is a former governor. The committee is led by Finance Minister Surendra Pandey.[break]

Ministry of Finance, on January 6, recommended the cabinet to include Thapa and Prof. Rudra Prasad Upadhyay as members for the committee constituted under the Nepal Rastra Bank Act 2002.

The committee will now recommend names of three persons -- renowned in the field of economic, monetary, banking, finance, commerce, management, commercial law and from among the deputy governors – for the post of governor to the cabinet.

The cabinet then appoints one of the three recommended persons to the post for five years.

The tenure of present governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai, who was appointed to the post of governor on 31 January 2005, is ending at the end of this month.
