KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The government is set to issue Rs 300 million for bankrolling the cash-strapped Sajha Publications.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Sunday took the decision to issue Rs 100 million in grant assistance and Rs 200 million in loan, said Minister for Education, Dhaniram Poudel.
The sole authorized distributor of government's publications, the Sajha Publications had been incurring losses for the past few years due to diminishing quality and lack of transparency.
Minister Poudel said the Publications will have to also manage from the allocated amount the money it owes to the Janak Education Material Centre.
Publications' Board members including national poet, Madhav Prasad Ghimire, had been knocking on the government's door including that of Prime Minister and senior political figures with an appeal to rescue the Sajha Publications.
The employees at the Sajha Publications, which has around 1500 writers and litterateurs as its share holders, have been complaining that they have not received salaries for the past six months. RSS
