KATHMANDU, July 25: The government has extended the term of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC) by three years.

This decision was made by a cabinet meeting held last week. The term of Bagmati Development Committee, established through a formation order, was expiring in mid-July. Had the government not intervened, the development committee would have automatically dissolved.

However, the extension provides continuity and allows the committee to continue its crucial work.

Furthermore, the government has made the decision to retain the term of Development Committee Chairman Uddhav Timilsina until November 13. Chairman Timalsina was appointed during the tenure of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on November 13, 2020, for a three-year term.

The formation order confers the Bagmati Development Committee with the responsibility to protect, enhance, purify, and beautify 18 rivers in the Kathmandu Valley, including Bagmati, Dhobikhola, and Bishnumati.
