Golden Gate, GAA win basketball<br/>Kalpana in women's football body

KATHMANDU, July 25: Golden Gate ´B´ and Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) ´A´ won the men´s and women´s title respectively under Second Father Donnelly 3 on 3 Men´s and Women´s Open Basketball Championship held at the GAA hall, Thamel on Saturday. [break]



Golden Gate defeated crushed Trinity ´A´ three sets to one in the final with 74-51 score. Golden Gate easily won the first two sets 21-11, 21-10 but failed in the third set as Trinity made a comeback attempt to win the third 21-11. However, Trinity´s dream of taking the match to the fifth set failed to materialise as it lost the fourth set 15-21 to be satisfied as the runners up. With the win Golden Gate bagged a cash prize of Rs 25,000 along with the medals and certificates while the runners up took away Rs 15,000, medals and certificates.



In the women´s category, the hosts team GAA came from behind in the last two sets to capture the title against the Prime College. The host lost the first set 15-21 but made a dramatic comeback in the last two sets 21-6 and 21-15. The winners and the runners up were awarded with Rs 15,000 and 10,000 along with medals and certificates.





Kalpana in women´s football body



KATHMANDU, July 25: National Women´s Football Association ad hoc committee was formed on Saturday under the leadership of Kalpana Piya Shrestha. She was also the president of ANFA women´s Association.



About 35 women´s meet on Saturday elected Shrestha as the president of the 21 member committee. Pramila Singh and Anju Bhattarai are the vice presidents of the committee while Bimal Poudel, Manju Shrestha and Sivani Thapa are the general secretary, secretary and treasurers respectively.





Thapa elected in Dhading DFA



KATHMANDU, July 25: The first general assembly of Dhading Football District Association elected Deepak Thapa as the president of the association. The assembly was held at Ghatbesi on Saturday.



The association formed two years ago also elected Raj Kumar Shrestha, Bikash Karki and Niranjan Kadel as the vice presidents. Visahan Shrestha, Navin Khatiwada, Keshav Adhikar, Sabin Lama, Pradip Shrestha, Deependra Shrestha and Bharat Bhandari are the members.



Ramesh Adhikari and Manraj Godhar were nominated general secretary and treasurer, respectively. All the members of the committee were elected on consensus.





Wushu seminar & coaches training



KATHMANDU, July 25: Kalpana Sunwar bagged first position in the Seventh Diploma Wushu Seminar organized by the Nepal Wushu Association in the capital. More than five dozen participants from around 30 districts participated in the 10-day-long seminar and the third National Wushu Coaches Training courses that concluded on Saturday.



Kalpana secured the first position out of 27 participants in the diploma course. Under Thaulu judge--Gautam Dangol and Santa Lama in Sansau were adjudged the best trainees out of 17 and 19 contestants respectively.



The participants were awarded with prizes, judge license and certificates by the former president of Federation of Nepalese Journalist Bishnu Nisthuri and the office holders of Nepal Wushu Association.
