The prime minister issued the request as the Maoist party has not yet provided details about its troops to the committee despite a government-Maoist agreement of September 13.[break]
"This (sharing of the details) will help create environment of trust," the prime minister said Tuesday, adding that he had talked to Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday morning in this regard.
He, without giving details, further said that he also asked Dahal to agree on designating the coordinator of a proposed secretariat of the Special Committee that will oversee the proposed integration and rehabiliation of combatants. The government and the UCPN (Maoist) have already agreed that a coordinator of the secretariat will be chosen from among the existing members of the Technical Committee.
The process of setting up the secretariat is still under way. Earlier, in February, the government and the UCPN (Maoist) engaged in a bitter dispute over naming the coordinator both of them wanted their man to head the secretariat.
Saying that the peace process is at the crossroads, the prime minister added that the peace process would reach to a logical conclusion if the Maoists became honest to implement the September 13 agreement. The agreement, among other things, has pledged to complete the remaining tasks of the peace process "basically" by January 14, 2011.
"If the Maoists became honest, integration and rehabilitation of combatants could be completed before the four-month timeframe," the prime minister said addressing a function organized by the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction to mark the International Peace Day in Kathmandu, Tuesday.
Nepal also argued that UNMIN´s burden in monitoring the peace process will lessen once the combatants are disassociated from the UCPN (Maoist) and are brought under the control and command of the Special Committee.
"Thereafter UNMIN will be needed only for clearing misunderstandings and facilitating convergence among the parties," Nepal said looking at UNMIN chief Karin Landgren, who was seated next to him at the function.
Addressing the function, Landgren appreciated the recent developments in the peace process and hoped that the process would maintain same pace in the coming days.
She also encouraged parties to act on their commitments made in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), including commitment to democracy, human rights, rule of law and the progressive restructuring of the state.
