Giri has a two-stroke lead over three players at the end of the tee-off day of the third event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-012. RNGC duo Rabi Khadka and Shiva Ram Shrestha as well as Mani Rai of Dharan shared the second spot at five-under 67.
Ghana´s Open champion Ramesh Adhikari and Sanjay Lama are tied for fifth position with the score of three-under 69, while Ram Krishna Shrestha is seventh at two-under. With one-under 71 each, three pros -- Umesh Nagarkoti, Surya Prasad Sharma and Deepak Neupane -- shared the eighth position along with amateur Bikash Bogati. Rajan Thapa and Rupak Acharya are tied at 11th spot with even-par 72.
Giri carded back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes before suffering a bogey on the next hole. He bounced back from that mistake and hit two more birdies on the seventh and ninth holes to take a turn at three-under 33. On the bogey-free back nine, Giri carded birdies on the 11th and 14th and in between he sank an eagle on the 12th hole.
In amateur section, Bogati is four strokes ahead of Tashi Tsering, who shot three-over 75, while Bhuwan Gurung and Charlie Gurung are both third with four-over 76.
A total of 35 golfers, including 24 pros and eight amateurs, are taking part in the tournament.
There will be a cut applied after the second round. Out of the total cash purse of Rs 425,000, the top three pros after four rounds will receive Rs 90,000, Rs 57,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively.
