Germany to provide Rs 7.5 billion in grant to Nepal

KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The bilateral talks on development assistance between the Nepal and German governments have concluded in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

In the talks, the German government agreed to provide 51 million euros in financial and technical assistance to Nepal over the next two years.

The assistance funds are agreed to be utilized in Nepal for making quality health infrastructure and services more accessible, developing and promoting green and renewable energy, strengthening various institutional bodies of local governments, and supporting economic and social development.

During the discussions, the Nepali side emphasized the importance of the role of development partners in achieving Nepal's Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and maintaining development efforts after transitioning from a least developed country to a developing country. 

Nepali side also requested the German government to continue and further strengthen the support provided to Nepal. The German government has expressed its commitment to continue collaborating on Nepal's development efforts in the future.

During the discussions, various topics were also covered, including collaboration on climate change, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and poverty reduction in the future.

The Nepali delegation was led by Joint Secretary Dhani Ram Sharma at the Ministry of Finance. On the German side, the discussions were led by Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Ambassador of Nepal to Germany Ram Kaji Khadka was also present on the occasion.
