TAPLEJUNG, Sept 12: Normal life has been affected in nine districts east of the Arun River due to a general strike called by the Sanyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha, an armed underground outfit operating in the region since early Monday.
The Morcha has called the strike to press the government for addressing its demands that also include release of its general secretary Devraj Limbu and other cadres belonging to the outfit. [break]
Vehicular movement in those districts have come to a grinding halt. Marketplaces and shops have been closed due to the strike.
Earlier, the Morcha had circulated pamphlets calling for the banda, informed Mechi Transport Association´s Chairman Yadav Oli.
Meanwhile, police have nabbed two strike enforcers--Dalmardan Kami ´Prabhas´ and Aviral--from Dharan.
Prabhas is the assistant coordinator and Aviral the member of the team that held the first round of talks with the government some time ago.
DSP Rajendra Bista of the local area police office, however said, the two were not arrested but were with them for talks. "We will take them to the district administration office for talks," DSP Bista said.
