Geetanjali into quarters

KATHMANDU: Geetanjali College has advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing fifth Dhorpatan National Open Men’s Volleyball Tournament as the group winner on Monday.

KATHMANDU: Geetanjali College has advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing fifth Dhorpatan National Open Men’s Volleyball Tournament as the group winner on Monday. 


In the last league match played on the day, Geetanjali defeated Dhorpatan ‘A’ in straight sets of 26-24, 26-24, 25-18 to win all three games and become the Group A winner.

With the win, it has nine points from three games. In the other matches played on the same day, Province 4, Glacier College and Budhanilkantha Volleyball Club all won their respective matches to reach the last eight. Province 4, who won its two matches, also reached the quarterfinals, defeating Dhading on straight sets of 25-19, 25-19, 25-14, while Glacier beat Chitwan Tigers on straight sets of 25-21, 25-16, 25-16. 


Likewise, Budhanilkantha saw off Nepal Chhatyal Association on straight sets of 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, while Glacier also overcame Suryodaya College 25-12, 25-18, 25-14.  A total of 16 teams are taking part in the tournament, which will run till September 22. The winner of the tournament will take home Rs 100,000, while the runner-up will bag a cash prize of Rs 60,000. Similarly, the third-placed team will be rewarded with Rs 35,000.  


Similarly, the best spiker, the best blocker, the best defender, the best server, the best lifter and the best coach will be rewarded with Rs 5,000 each. One lucky member from the audience will win a scooter, the organizers said. Nepal Volleyball Association is coordinating the tournament.
