KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Gas dealers have urged consumers not to stockpile cylinders unnecessarily, assuring that a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is unlikely in the coming days.
The Nepal LP Gas Industry Association (NLPGA) stated that imports from India have been rising steadily, while companies continue refilling and supplying cylinders to the market. It appealed to consumers to purchase only what they need.

“If consumers refrain from buying extra cylinders, the shortage currently being felt will be resolved immediately. There is unlikely to be any disruption in supplies in the coming days,” association President Diwan Bahadur Chand said in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), LPG imports from Indian refineries have increased by about 15 percent and are being supplied smoothly. The corporation reported importing 39,774 metric tonnes of LPG in the past 22 days. At the current pace, around 55,000 metric tonnes are expected to be imported during the Nepali month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August), compared to 44,318 metric tonnes in the same period last fiscal year.
The association said it is making every effort to ensure adequate supply in line with market demand and urged dealers to prioritize household consumers in distribution.
