KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Today marks the birth of deity Ganesh in Bhadra Shukla Chaturthi day which is being celebrated all across the country.
Son of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati, deity Ganesh is worshipped first in any prayer ritual and worship.
Akshay Tritiya festival is being celebrated today
After ending the Teej fasting, deity Ganesh fasting is done as per Hindu ritual and customs. This is done according to the belief of achieving a prosperous and harmonious marital life for the people who fast on this day. This is illustrated in 'Ganesh Puran'.
On this day in Kathmandu, worshippers perform puja in Ashokbinayak, Chandrabinayak, Suryabinayak in Bhaktapur, Kamalbinayak, and all across the country.
Newar community celebrates this day as 'Chatha' festival. There is a ritual of giving 'Xusyamusya' to children.
