POKHARA, April 15: The Governor of Gandaki Province, Amik Sherchan announced the prorogation of the winter session of the provincial assembly upon the recommendation of Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung as opposition parties including Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Centre) were preparing to register a no-confidence motion against him.
The assembly session was prorogued effective from Wednesday midnight.
Karnali Province Assembly’s budget session prorogued
The major parties including NC, CPN (MC), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha were preparing to file a no-confidence motion against CM Gurung at a time when the latter has been struggling hard to secure a majority in the provincial assembly in favor of his government.
The Rastirya Janamorcha, earlier on Wednesday, withdrew its support to the CM Gurung-led government. The party’s chairman Chitra Bahadur KC, in a press statement on Wednesday, said his party has withdrawn its support extended to Chief Minister Gurung. KC also announced to support the no-confidence motion to be registered against Chief Minister Gurung.
