Public life in Gaighat has been affected by the banda as the market, transport services and educational institutions there remained closed.
The committee has enforced the general strike to exert pressure on the police to identify the murderers of a 15-year-old local boy, son of Ine Magar. The boy was murdered by unidentified assailants on 20 April.
Locals say the murderer is Trilochan Puri, a policeman with the Armed Police Force (APF) border security unit at Thadi, Siraha. Members of the struggle committee say that they have filed a first information report against Puri at the police station but the local police was not taking action against him.
Police has taken the accused Puri, the mother of the boy and half a dozen other people into custody for investigation.
