Binita Parajuli, 18, who just completed her A-levels from Budhanilkantha shares how it was a heavenly experience for her to complete the month-long finals. A music lover she added that she had missed quite a few concerts in town and had intentions of going to one right after finishing her exams. She says, “Luckily, there was a concert the following Saturday. The head banging session and the harmonic tremors did help a lot to break the monotony and bring me back to life.”
Similarly, going to the discos and dance parties is another of the youngsters´ favorite after-exam activity. The thumping beats and high energy music of the DJs are enough to enliven their mood by inducing energy and providing a thrill. A diverse mix of people and their moves keeps the atmosphere alive and vibrant which can help lift the exam blues. “Besides dancing and merriment, these parties also provide a good place to socialize with others,” says Bikash Pokhrel, 20, student.

For many, hanging out with close friends seems to be a popular option. There are lots of places in Kathmandu where you can have a good time strolling around with your mates. Taking trips to the famous Durbar Squares, window shopping in the malls and eating out are some of the things that the youth love to do to rejuvenate their spirits. The mesmerizing nightlife in Thamel appeals to youngsters offering them restaurants and cafes to loiter around. Prashant Thapa, 18, says, “It feels great to hang around the place, especially Thamel. It is enchanting!”
While some favor these outdoor activities like hanging out or going to a mall, there are some who love to shut themselves in their rooms. Probing keyboards and playing with joysticks to satiate their computer game mania, they are totally at ease with their own style. “I invite my friends and cousins over to my place and we play against each other,” says Saghav Dhungana, 20, who recently finished his bachelors.

For some, reading course books during examinations does not seem to tire their eyes and brains. Pratyush Chapagain, 19, says, “For me reading is a passion, especially novels. Believe me, I don´t get tired of reading.” He further adds that he cannot wait to rush to the library to get his due dates extended so that he can continue with his half-finished novels left untouched during his exam period.
Watching movies or favorite episodes as part of a freshener from the stressful exam period is among the unfailing methods of guaranteed fun for most youth. Mamata Gupta, 17, says that she buys dozens of movies ands watches them day and night. “I am a huge Naruto [an animie series] lover so I just can´t wait to load these series into my laptop and watch them,” she adds.
After a monotonous exam period, everybody deserves a break. Whether it is skipping off to the mall with your friends, watching TV for long hours, facebooking to your heart´s content or just relaxing in your room listening to music or anything else; after exam fun is something that is quite longed for.
