KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Kal Bahadur Basnet, a fugitive defendant from Kirtipur Municipality-4 Gamcha and originally from Banphikot Rural Municipality-2, Rukum West, has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in connection with a human trafficking and smuggling case.
He was taken into custody in the UAE with the coordination of National Central Bureau (NCB) Abu Dhabi, and was brought back to Nepal on Monday for legal proceedings related to the case.

At the request from NCB Kathmandu, the Interpol General Secretariat had issued a Red Notice against him on December 26, 2024, after he absconded while being involved in the case.
Basnet has now been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau for further legal action in accordance with the related offense.
