KATHMANDU, May 30: The Free Student Union (FSU) election scheduled earlier for June 6 has been postponed until further notice following a sharp dispute among students unions over the issue of fake admission in various campuses across the country.

The decision to postpone the FSU election was taken following a marathon meeting held on Thursday between the leaders of four main students unions affiliated to various political parties and Vice Chancellor, Dean of Education, Rector and chief of Students Welfare and Sports department of Tribhuvan University, Chandra Mani Poudel, Registrar at TU, informed.[break]

“The four students unions affiliated to UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist reached to a decision to postpone the June 6’s election protesting the admission of fake students,” said Poudel, adding, “We will formally take the decision on the postponement of elections after calling a meeting of TU Executive Committee today itself.”

Poudel further stated that TU would announce new date of FSU polls only if student unions come up with joint proposal for the election in near future.
