'Radhe Shyam', 'RRR', 'Jersey': Bollywood movies indefinitely postponed due to Covid-19
With the rise in Covid-19 cases across the country, new restrictions are being imposed in several states. This is also affecting the release date of films and Bollywood biggies are being postponed. It all began with Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’ that was called off at the last minute while multi-lingual ‘RRR’ has also been postponed. Here’s taking a look at Bollywood films which have been postponed in recent times.
Prabhas and Pooja Hegde starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’
Fans have been waiting with bated breath for Prabhas and Pooja Hegde’s love saga. But ‘Radhe Shyam’ won’t keep its date with the audience on January 14. Announcing the postponement, an official statement read, “We have been trying our best for the past few days but considering the growing cases of Omicron variant it looks like we will have to wait for our labour of love to get to the big screens. Radhe Shyam is a story about love vs destiny and we are sure that your love will help us tide over these tough times together.”

Jr NTR and Ram Charan starrer ‘RRR’
Celebrated filmmaker SS Rajamouli's magnum opus ‘RRR’, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn was to hit the screens on January 7. But owing to theatres shutting down and 50 per cent occupancy in a few states, the makers called off the movie’s theatrical release. “Inspite of our relentless efforts, some situations are beyond our control. As many Indian states are closing theatres, we are left with no choice but to ask you to hold on to your excitement. We promised to bring back The Glory of Indian Cinema, and at the right time, WE WILL," the team shared in an official statement.
Shahid Kapoor-Mrunal Thakur’s Jersey
Shahid Kapoor-Mrunal Thakur’s ‘Jersey’ was all set to release on December 31. However, just a couple of days before the film’s release, the makers took a decision to postpone the sports drama. “In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!” read their statement. Directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, this entertainer is a remake of a Telugu drama by the same name.
Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar’s ‘Prithviraj’
Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar starrer ‘Prithviraj’ is another film to be affected by the rise in Covid-19 cases. "'Prithviraj' will massively aid in bringing people back to the theaters and it can't be released at a time when it won't fulfill this purpose. Business wise too it doesn't make sense to compromise a film that will rake in the moolah at the box-office. YRF was waiting till the last minute to see if the situation in India and overseas improves but the pace with which coronavirus cases are accelerating, it forced their hand to hold on to the biggest title,” a source had told PTI. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, this historical drama was slated to release on January 21.
