KATHMANDU, March 15: Demanding correction in the 11-point political deal on formation of the interim election government under the leadership of chief justice, the Federal Socialist Party-Nepal (FSPN) has warned of taking to the streets.

The party leaders at a press meet at the party head office in Maharajgunj on Friday announced a five-point demand saying that the political agreement on forming CJ-led election government was a blatant breach of democratic values and constitutionalism.[break]

The party demanded cancellation of the 25-point order on making amendments to various articles of the Interim Constitution by invoking the provision of removing constitutional difficulties.

"The ratio of electing Constituent Assembly members under the proportional representative quota as practiced in the past CA must be given continuity," read a statement issued by FSPN General Secretary, Rajendra Shrestha.

As per the 11-point agreement reached among the leaders from UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Madhesi Democratic Front (UDMF) on Wednesday stated that of the total 491 CA members, 240 lawmakers will be elected under the first-past-the-post electoral system and 240 other lawmakers will be elected under the proportional quota while 11 others will be nominated by the government.

In the past 601-member CA, 240 were directly elected from the people, 26 were nominated by the cabinet while the rest were elected under the proportional quota.

FSPN Chairman Ashok Rai, General Secretary Shrestha and majority of key leaders in the party had last year quit the UML to launch their own party following differences with UML leadership on the policy of proposed federal structure. The party reiterated on identity-based federalism and stressed promulgating new constitution from the CA.
