As the reluctant Wolverine travels to Japan, he is offered a chance at mortality by Yashida who tells him, “Eternity can be a curse. I can end your eternity. Make you mortal.”
Yet things are not all they seem and the trip to bid goodbye to the business tycoon is prolonged to a safety mission concerning his granddaughter, Mariko (Tao Okamoto). Family disputes are unwrapped and followed by more unveiling.[break]
During this transition, we see how the Wolverine is slowly coming to reaccept his fate as a soldier out to right the wrongs and protect people. Jean continues to appear in his dreams throughout the action, a reminder of the burden he carries.
We have the Wolverine fighting a bunch of swift ninjas who shoot bows as quickly as they move and the agile Yukio who give us some good action. Wolverine battles against samurai swords and poisonous bows, gets riddled with bullets and even comes close to finding an end to his torment. But, he rises above all the mayhem and gives us reasons to root for him again.
Also, do remember to sit through a few minutes of credits. What you will see will make you feel that you just can’t wait till the next offering.
