KATHMANDU, March 21: The government will take action against freight vehicles if they are found to be carrying overload, officials at the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) said.

The "Containers' Carrying Capacity Regulation Directive, 2074 BS" has provisioned that freight vehicles carrying more than their capacity will be penalized, according to Loknath Bhusal, spokesperson for the DoTM.

"If the containers are found carrying overload, they would face action. They would face action as per the containers' carrying capacity regulation directive, 2074, B.S." Bhusal said.

The DoTM came up with this decision in response to complaints of non-implementation of the directive, Bhusal said.

Earlier, the department brought into use the weighing bridge at Bardibas of Mahottari and Aanptari of Chitwan to curb overloaded transportation. The initiative is aimed at reducing accidents and ensuring road safety. RSS
