SURKHET, Nov 4: Advocacy Forum has agreed to provide free legal help to the family members of slain journalist Dekendra Thapa. The forum came forward for help following a request by Thapa´s wife Laxmi and Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).

At a press conference in Birendranagar on Thursday, the forum´s mid-western region chief Basanta Gautam said the forum will help ensure that the culprits, who are walking freely despite a murder complaint lodged with police, are brought to book. [break]

Gautam said the forum will immediately urge police and the administration to probe the case on the basis of the complaint of the victims. If that does not work, the forum plans to move court against government officials on the chrage of non-cooepration.

Thapa, a journalist associated with Radio Nepal, was abducted and murdered on June 26, 2004. And on September 22, 2008, Laxmi filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Dailekh, accusing Maoist worker Bam Bahadur Khadka and others of involvement in the crime.

Police say the main accused is absconding. But sources say he is with the Maoist PLA´s sixth division.
