KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Four transport management offices inside the Kathmandu Valley have resumed their services, which were disrupted following the September 8-9 Gen Z movement.

According to the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), the transport management offices in Ekantakuna, Thulo Bharyang, Radhe Radhe and Chabahil restarted their official works from Tuesday. Out of 42 offices related to transport management across the country, 37 have been reconstructed after sustaining damage during the protest, enabling them to resume their office work.

Five transport management offices in Birtamode, Itahari, Lahan, Chitwan and Kaski districts, however, have failed to resume online services after being completely destroyed during the protest.

All services related to driving licenses, including issuance, online applications, fee collection, and written and practical exams, had remained suspended for the past month following the Gen Z movement. This has affected applicants who need licenses for work or those preparing for foreign employment.

The DoTM had halted all license-related work—including printing, accepting online applications, collecting revenue, and conducting written and practical exams, after the Gen Z protest. Even those who passed the practical test have failed to receive official recognition.

Meanwhile, the DoTM says it is preparing to relaunch details about the driving license related issues in Nagarik App, which was disrupted following the vandalism and arson in the data center of the DoTM. Similarly, the government body is looking forward to issuing printed driving licenses on urgent needs soon, targeting students going abroad for study and for migrant workers, among others.
