According to DSP Hobindra Bogati, the newly appointed Chief at Metropolitan Police Sector´s Office, Singhdurbar, though the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, the prima facie evidence suggests that it was an accident as the taxi plunged into the stream earlier in the morning. [break]
The deceased has been identified as Indra Bahadur Sarki, 30, of Bhirkot-5, Dolakha district.
According to the owner of the taxi with the registration number Ba 1 Ja 7994, Sarki had come to his home at around 4:30 am to take the taxi parked there.
“We were informed about the incident at around 5:30 am and when reached the spot the taxi was found in the stream. And the driver´s body was spotted about one kilometer downstream.”
Though the dead body doesn´t show any sign of injuries or strains, the nature of the incident suggests that the driver drowned after the taxi plunged into the stream.
The body has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for the postmortem.
But the test will be carried out only on Monday due to the delay in receiving a letter of permission from the concerned agencies, according to the Forensic Department of the hospital.
Meanwhile the police has also recovered the body of Ramesh Shahi, 55, of Kalimati Tankeswor, near the roadside at Maipi.
Two more bodies were recovered from the Bagmati River on Saturday and Sunday, the police further informed, adding that they were still investigating the cause behind the deaths.
