KATHMANDU, March 3: Four former Chief Election Commissioners have urged the Election Commission (EC) to take the decision on the authenticity row of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) at the earliest.
Issuing a joint press statement on Wednesday, former Chief Election Commissioners Surya Prasad Shrestha, Bhoj Raj Pokharel, Neel Kantha Uprety, Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and former Acting Chief Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung said the questions raised over the decision-making capacity and autonomy of the election body had made them serious.
The former Chief Election Commissioners have asked the EC to take a decision on the NCP’s row at the earliest on the basis of existing laws and established precedents keeping in view of the implication that the EC’s indecision on the NCP’s row could leave to the country’s political process.
