The deceased have been identified as Yam Kumari Bagale, 55, her daughter Tulasa Gharti, 27, granddaughter Sandhya, 8, and grandson Sanjeev, 5. Tulasa, who lives in Kusumkhola VDC, had come to visit her mother Yam Kumari a few days ago. [break]
As Bagale’s husband Man Bahadur went off to Kathmandu for the treatment of her youngest daughter, Yam Kumari had asked Tulasa to stay with her for some days. Yam Kumari´s son Prem, too, had been staying off home, in Tansen, for his study.
Tulasa´s husband had died two years ago while undergoing treatment of kidney ailment at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu. With Tulasa and her children´s death, nobody has remained in her family. Her two children had been studying in a local school.
According to local villagers, Yam kumari and her daughter and grand children had slept quite early Tuesday evening as there was a heavy rainfall in the village. They did not come out of their home until late Wednesday.
Sensing some unpleasant incident, villagers gathered in front of their house unlocked the door by using force. Villagers were shell-shocked to see all of them lying dead in the pool of blood. While three family members were downstairs, Tulasa was found upstairs.
A team of police, led by DSP Pawan Kumar Giri, reached the spot only after 24 hours of the incident. According to police, all four family members are hacked to death by a khukuri. “Their faces and heads too bear several deep cuts,” police say.
A preliminary investigation of police has found that Yam Kumari and her children were murdered by those who wanted to decamp with their gold ornaments. “After enquiring Yam Kumari´s neighbors, we have reached a conclusion that the sole reason behind their murder is to loot their ornaments,” DSP Giri told myrepublica.com.
According to Giri, Man Bahadur, who received Rs 100,000 after retiring from Indian Electricity Board just a couple of weeks ago, had bought 10 tolas of gold. “Every one knew in the village that they had gold, which must have led to their murder,” Giri said.
According to him, police did not find gold on the spot. “The killers must have fled with all gold,” he said. “We, however, will arrest them soon.”
