KATHMANDU, Nov 10: A team of police deployed from Kathmandu arrested former minister for internal affairs and law of Koshi Province, Lila Ballab Adhikari, from his residence in Biratnagar on Sunday for his alleged involvement in human trafficking.
After his arrest, the police airlifted him to Kathmandu and presented him before the District Court, Kathmandu. After the preliminary hearing, the court granted permission to the police to remand him in custody for two days for investigation.

Adhikari has been accused of taking three Nepalis with him to Japan by misusing his authority to make fake documents for them.
The court has also granted permission to the police to investigate six other people involved in the same case for two days. The provincial chapter of the ruling CPN-UML suspended Adhikari from the party on Saturday pending further investigation into his visit to Japan during Tihar without the party’s permission. Former Minister Adhikari resigned from the post last Wednesday amid growing criticism and pressure from the province government and the party.
